London to Paris Rowing Challenge |
LONDON 2 PARIS ROWING CHALLENGE TO BENEFIT RIVETIME BOAT TRUST On May 9th 2010, The Outloars, a scratch, mixed crew assembled from the UK and Belgium will be testing themselves against the elements, their mettle and two other experienced crews in a non-stop 6 day rowing race from London to Paris over a distance of 480 miles in a traditional Thames cutter. Their gruelling journey, the London2Paris Rowing Challenge, will test the stamina of the very strongest and starts at Big Ben and follows the Thames to its estuary,across the English Channel and up the River Seine from Le Havre to the Eiffel Tower. The Team are proud to be raising money for their main charity the RNLI as well as a range of very worthy, and in some cases, very personal charities. Guy Fisher, a business man from Henley has chosen to raise funds for the Rivertime Boat Trust. Lucy Herbert skipper of Rivertime said” We are delighted that Guy has chosen to support Rivertime. The money raised will be used to fund children through various charities and special needs schools who otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford to use Rivertime. Rivertime is the only purpose built boat for disabled people and Guy knows the immense pleasure to be had from being on the river in summer.” Rivertime, is a day boat based in Henley for use by disabled and disadvantaged children and adults, for the summer season. The boat was launched in 2008 year by the Rivertime Boat Trust for use on the Middle Thames between Windsor and Oxford. From June to October 2009 Rivertime undertook 135 trips giving pleasure to many children and adults. Bookings are now being taken for this summer. Guy Fisher is available fro interview.
